A recap of Deerfield's events and projects for September thru November
follows:
The guest
speaker for September was Dr. Kulhanek of Humana. Platters of
refreshments were served such as bagels, doughnuts, cream cheese, fresh
fruits, coffee. On September 12th, we enjoyed the show "No, No Nanette"
at the Broward Stage Door Theater. Transportation was provided by
charter bus. Deerfield went several times to the Mardi Gras Casino, the
Hard Rock Casino, the Isle Casino, the original Florida Follies, two
successful luncheons. Our installation meeting was aptly chaired by
Betty Swinkin, Installation Chairperson and hosted by Carol Gallanter
and the six ladies who worked together with her and to Sheila Simms for
getting the refreshments for the chapter. We made our
annual contributions to the four worthy community organizations. Representatives from each
had great publicity from the photographer of the Reporter Newspaper.
We have become know in the community and our membership roster has grown
and hopefully we can continue on this way.
Dolly Abrams has agreed to be our official greeter at our meetings
(Thank you Dolly). Selma Edelman is now our new volunteer of
"Proofreader"
Thank you Selma!
On October 16 we had a Palm Beach Princess Day Cruise with Selma Edelman
chairing, assisted by Marilyn Asner, Betty Swinkin and Fran Albert. At
our October 27th meeting we showed slides and had an art viewing;
November 8th was our Pizza Party and of course, November 13th to 15th we
had our National Convention at West Palm Beach with the following in
attendance: Marilyn Asner who was installed once again as Financial
Officer, Betty Swinkin who was reelected to Regional Chair Person and
delegates Fran Albert and Selma Edelman. On November 24th we had our
regular meeting at the Clubhouse and our newly elected National
President Betty Peyser did the pinning for the ceremony
A reminder, Florence Jacobson makes beautiful things such as afghans,
sweater sets, hats, etc. She sells these items in the club house on
Mondays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. All proceeds are donated to UOTS. If you
need a hand knitted gift, this is the perfect thing. Her items are
really beautiful. You can call her for information at 954/ 570-9526.
Thank you to Madeline Silver who donated yarn for the ladies, who knit
and makes things for the kids in the hospital. and also to Lila Lee
Kolinsky and sincere gratitude for the many things that Betty Swinkin
and her ladies will take to the hospital for the sick children. Continue
working and doing these wonder things for these children.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU NOTE
True Sisters is a very special group
You realize when someone is hurting
That takes very special people with deep feelings
The flowers that you sent me are gorgeous, however,
They do not compare with the wonderful feeling of friendship
I felt when I received them
I feel a void has been partially filled
(the loss of my sister)
by your friendship,
Thank you for the beautiful flowers
And for your just being you.
