Heritage has celebrated
over forty years of "Spreading Our Wings of Hope and Care." This chapter
has worked closely with the Administrative Director of the North Shore
Medical Center. Recently they purchased special chemotherapy chairs for
the Oncology Department. Additionally, Heritage sponsors a cancer
support group "Healing With Hope" from the Union Hospital Cancer Care
Program. Heritage recently completed a pledge of $50,000 to the Medical
Center. The Philanthropic Chair is Mrs. Charlotte Freedberg.
UOTS is an organization that allocates funds toward home provisions and
personal service such as wigs, prostheses and comfort items for cancer
patients. They provide scholarships for children with cancer to attend
camp and experience camp in a safe environment. Heritage provides for
support groups and have provided services in any way that is needed in
the community for cancer service, including outreach services.
For more than a century and a half, the members of UOTS, Inc. have kept
up with the changing needs of our times, promoting charitable projects
in their own communities and nationwide. Although the records of this
historic organization is presently on loan to the Hebrew Union College
Jewish Archives in Cincinnati, Ohio, we are a non-sectarian organization
serving all persons regardless of age, race, religion, gender.
Additionally, membership is open to all.
In 1947, UOTS, Inc. Cancer Personal Service was established to offer
assistance to patients suffering from cancer, providing support groups
such as Union Hospital's "Healing With Hope" and funding for special
projects.
The following message was received from Jim Harris, Developmental
Director of North Shore Medical Center. "The United Order of True
Sisters (UOTS) Heritage Chapter #53 has a long history of charitable
giving to the North Shore Medical Center (NSMC). For over 25 years, this
group of dedicated women has donated close to $248,000 for Oncology
Services at Union Hospital and the North Shore Cancer Center, affiliates
of NSMC.
Their generosity has contributed to the purchase of equipment and the
implementation of new services for thousands of cancer patients on the
North Shore. We are most grateful to the UOTS for their loyal support
and commitment to the care of those we serve."
