One of our functions in the
Plantation Chapter is to send children with cancer (with
doctor's approval) to Camp Rock. They can spend a week
away having fun. June 19th, 2008 was the day the
children left for camp. It was early in the morning and
it was raining. The children didn't care.
It was camp day. The children had
breakfast and received bags filled with blankets made by
our members, toys made by Shirley Geller, books,
bookmarks, chips, candy, cookies and lots more. They got
T-shirts and Magic 102.7 came with bags filled with
bottled water and other good things for the kids. The
children danced and had a great time thanks to Rhythm
City D.J. They were wonderful. They also had their faces
painted.
This is what it is all about. Our
goal is to help others. If it is for raising money for
the children who go to camp or hospice, we are there.
Our latest project is getting
together bags filled with teddy bears, books, hats and
other things for children when they go for chemo
treatment. We are also making bibs for hospice. We are
not having general meetings for the summer but we still
keep working.
If anybody is interested and would
like more information about our chapter, please contact
our president, Marlene Heinig, 954-473-6132.
Please take a look at the Pictures of
the children going to camp and Shirley Geller's animals
in the photo gallery below.
Over the summer we will be getting
our activities, shows, card parties etc. together and as
soon as I get them, I will let you know.
Have a great summer!
